RESTING

Ria Pacquée made this piece by transferring slides and photographs to video. In different parts of Belgium and the world – large parts in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America – the artist shot hundreds of pictures of resting people. In most of the cases the subjects did not know they were ‘portrayed’ by the artist. Lying cosily in the sun on the beach, on a bench in Calcutta or under a three in a park, these hundreds of ‘stolen moments’ create an often humorous and sometimes absurd mosaïque on a basic human activity and daily life in general.
