Scrub Solo 1: ’Soloneliness’ is the first film experiment between Antonin De Bemels and choreographer Bud Blumenthal. A dancer facing a mirror, in a fixed frame, tries to catch his own reflection, the body incessantly turning round on itself. At times there is no more than an abstraction of white light, while at others his hand seems to pass through the mirror. Further on, a grid-like shape is interposed in front of the mirror and intensifies the feeling of solitude and enclosure. The character in the film inhabits, and is almost imprisoned within, an unreal time which nevertheless seems natural. He communicates with his own solitude. Winner of the Springdance Cinema Award 2000, Utrecht, The Netherlands
