The Belgian photographer Julien Coulommier doesn’t deal in the exotic, the eccentric, the technical performance; he penetrates the depth of banality, he is profoundly connected with his subjects. An Inland Walk is not only a portrait of a photographer, but also a portrait of the artistic context, the spirit of the time in which the work was developed (Cobra, etc.). The photographer talks about his pictures, about the photography itself. The portrait avoids glorification, hagiography. The biographical anecdotes are subordinate to the focus on the medium itself. In essence, there is the wondering. We catch a view on a photographer with a special language. The work is in every aspect ’original’ and occupies a unique place in the history of photography.
