NIELE TORONI

While in the mid-1980s in South quarter of Antwerp work a museum of contemporary art was being set up, a series of private art galleries opened their doors in the same quarter. In the gallery of Micheline Szwajczer an exhibition was on with new works by the Swiss artist Niele Toroni. Cornelis presents a detached overview of the works—comment and soundtrack are missing. Yet he explains how the artist works with a text that is projected over the image. The television report also features a debate between Toroni and art critic/curator George Adé about how context defines art, and about the role of space in Toroni’s work and the techniques he uses.
