GÜLSÜN KARAMUSTAFA - KITSCH & BEYOND

LECTURE

Linked to the exhibition 'Mystic Transport', taking place in both Argos and CENTRALE for contemporary art, Gülsün Karamustafa will talk about her work and influences. In ‘Kitsch and Beyond’ she will investigate the history and nature of kitsch, a term originally applied to ephemeral and trashy works that are regarded as pretentious and tasteless. Though generally considered an outcome of bad taste, kitsch has an extreme attractiveness and a charm of its own. In contemporary art kitsch is widely used by many artists, from time to time in a highly critical manner.
Gülsün Karamustafa (TR, 1946) graduated from the State Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul. She lives and works in Istanbul.
