Support LI-MA
LI-MA is an influential Dutch centre of expertise and a digital repository for media art, serving both institutions and artists. Unfortunately, although their structural funding application for the upcoming four years was evaluated positively, LI-MA was not granted the necessary structural funding to continue its essential activities.
LI-MA’s importance in the field of digital art cannot be overestimated. The efforts of the institution in terms of distribution, research and preservation of digital art have had a clear impact on the resources, knowledge and practices available to colleagues, artists and audiences all over Europe.
Denying structural support to LI-MA without offering alternative, sustainable solutions is neglecting its artistic, cultural and digital heritage, a cornerstone of contemporary media arts. Not tending to the institution is irresponsible. Without LI-MA’s exceptional care, resourcefulness and technical know-how, the Dutch and international landscape of media and digital art wouldn’t be where it stands today. LI-MA disappearance would severely impoverish the field.
Not only is LI-MA a cherished colleague and essential partner to argos, it is an international and pioneering advocate for digital arts. The delicate situation in which LI-MA finds itself unfortunately predicts the future of many similar archival institutions in the world and sets a dangerous precedent for what’s to come.
