Performance & audiovisual installation: L'Autre Famille du Bureau Des Pleurs by Carla Adra
Arkana I is represented by The Tower that is associated with transformation and awakening, a moment of revelation that clears away outdated structures depicted by the dramatic imagery of a tower being struck by lightning. This card signifies events that can feel shocking or even chaotic, but these experiences ultimately lead to new insights, growth and a stronger foundation.
For a week, in a backstage room at argos, artist Carla Adra exchanged with thirty Belgian cultural workers who agreed to tell her a story of a personal experience lived at work. Put together, these anonymous testimonies create a unique collection, and draw a clear picture of the cultural sector in Belgium - its frustrations, complexities, strengths and vulnerabilities. These stories will be reenacted on 2 November at argos by Carla Adra and two performers during a four-hour long immersive and interactive performance.
Visitors are free to roam in and out out of the performance and to pick their own story.
For her debut show in Brussels, Carla Adra reinvents her Bureau des Pleurs by embracing the audiovisual medium. The artist transforms her performance into an immersive installation for the first time. This unique format allows the performance to transcend its ephemeral nature, and permanently infuse the argos building leaving the stories to resonate and reverberate against the white walls of the institution.
The installation can be viewed at argos from 3 November through 22 December.
