MARTA BERGMAN

After her studies in journalism and communication, Marta Bergman went to study film at the INSAS in Brussels. She immediately started to make her own documentaries, that all show a great interest in people and their daily life. Bergman draws her main inspiration from the stories of her native region. Her portraits of the people of the Roma community – gipsy musicians, women in search of a western husband or her own grandmother for example – might be considered as classic documentaries, although there are always fictitious notes to be found. Both she and her characters are storytellers, rather than interpreters or witnesses of social and political topics. Her work has been shown, among others, during festivals like ’Filmer à tout prix’ (Brussels), ‘Visions du Réel’ (Nyon) and the International ’Documentary Film Festival’ of Marseille.
